The Alberta Abbey presents a night of indie tilted rock n roll featuring the multi-instrumentalist Elly Swope. Adam Torres and The Argonauts along with Babytooth to round out the bill. Starts early and is all ages.
Elly Swope is a recording engineer, multi-instrumentalist, and Portland mainstay. Swope’s debut EP, It Feels the Same Everytime, released last year on Brooklyn-based label Rue Defense, garnered acclaim from local and national publications, received airplay on Portland-based stations, including XRAY, Freeform, and OPB, and was featured on the 2019 PDX Pop Now! compilation.
Adam Torres released both ‘Pearls to Swine’ & ‘I Came to Sing the Song’ on Fat Possum in 2016 & 2017 respectively, from his then-home of Austin, Texas. After three years of non-stop touring in North America, Europe and Australia and after a country-wide move to his now-home of Portland Oregon, Adam Torres & the Argonauts will play their debut show after recently forming in the last month in September of 2021.
Babytooth is the Portland, OR-based songwriting project of singer/guitarist Isabel Zacharias. The accompanying guitar leads of Annie Fifter (Yellow Room) are sometimes crunchy, sometimes clean, with Hugh Jepson (Soft Cheese, Moon Shy) behind the drums and Clayton Collins splitting time between the bass & the Casiotone. Somewhere between early aughts-inspired indie rock and lyric-driven folk, the songs explore awareness and distraction, aging and loss, comic relief, the everyday, and how memory informs identity.
