A community celebration of the accomplishments in the spirit and legacy of Rosa Parks to honor the families who lived, worked, and went to school and church in the historic Albina/Elliott community Relevant then and now, inner NE was a thriving historic black neighborhood to be remembered for all times.
Jahana McCoy:
On her music career path, JAHANA has been afforded the opportunity to share the stage along with adding her striking soprano sound on background vocals for both Gospel music and R & B greats to name a few; Pattie Labelle, Philly's own Musiq Soulchild, Ceelo Green, Christina Aguilera, The Roots, Lil Mo, Cassidy, Jonathan McReynolds, Kierra Sheard and Vashawn Mitchell, Jonathan Nelson, Kevin Terry. These experiences provided her the ground training she needed to develop into the vocal powerhouse she is today. JAHANA is presently one of JJ Hairston's traveling singers and is featured on one of his latest released singles "Miracle Worker". She is also currently serving as Worship and Arts director, alongside her husband Steve McCoy at the Imago Dei Eastside location (Portland, OR).
Steven McCoy:
Raised in the heart of Baltimore City, Steven McCoy taught himself to play the drums at the age of 5 and cultivated his ear to learn music without formal teaching or training.
At age 17, Steven battled with osteosarcoma (a tumor that attacked his knee bone and developed into cancer).That experience was the foundation to some of Steven's most touching compositions, including Vashawn Mitchell's "Greatest Man" and The Potter's House's "Crying Out For The Nations." Now, he fully demonstrates his maturity as a songwriter. Steven has written & produced for national & international artists such as Vashawn Mitchell, Charles Butler & Trinity, Kevin Terry & Predestined, Earnest Pugh to name a few. Most recently he's worked as musical producer for the live recording of Sonnie Badu's highly anticipated album "Sounds of Africa" (single 'Amazing God available now).
Trinity Praise: Brika de Tar & Claire Newrones
These gifted musical artists are friends who have been singing professionally for years.They decided to combine their vocal gifts to share and profess their faith as one. The transparency of their spirituality ring true as they sing and inspire all who listen.
Aspen Meadow Choral:
The Aspen Meadow Choral group consists of members from their talented church family of musicians. They perform yearly at spectacular concerts and musical-themed productions for their church and greater community. Their commitment to supporting local non-profits and charities is vital, evident, and foremost as is their zest for sharing their musical testimony to all.
Lorene Wilder / pianist vocalist:
Mother Lorene Wilder is arguably the most impactful and influential gospel musical ambassador of our city. Starting in the 50s she has made a huge footprint in the local community. Her powerful musical delivery Is legendary, infectious and undeniable! The love of her craft and expertise in mentoring youth and the next generation of vocalists is known throughout our city and community. Her legacy is sealed and one to be celebrated and emulated. Simply put she's a legend in her own time, and a treasure to her community!
