Join us from 7pm - 10pm on Thursday, October 6 at the Alberta Abbey for a special sneak peek into the final rehearsal for the Concert For Bangladesh and Concert For George shows that will be performed October 7-8 at Revolution Hall in Portland.
Step into the Abbey's historic theater and witness 30+ of Portland's finest musicians and singers put the final touches on what promises to be two epic nights of George Harrison! This is not a re-creation of the original, legendary shows. Nor is it a dress rehearsal. This is the entire cast, in their final rehearsal, working through the songs under the direction of producer and artistic director, Mark Bowden of SonicButterPDX (an Alberta Abbey tenant). You'll get a behind the scenes look at how a show of this scale comes together—something most people never get to see!
We ask that you consider giving more than the minimum $5 donation at the door, because, in addition to donating the theater for rehearsals, the Alberta Abbey serves as a critical counterbalance to the negative impacts of gentrification on our community. Operated by a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the Abbey provides below-market workspace to artists and arts organizations, affordable event rental spaces, and signature programming responsive to the desires of neighbors and the city’s arts community. The Abbey's mission is to nurture the creative, visual and performing arts in N/NE Portland by amplifying and creating real opportunities for underrepresented communities to showcase their talents in a multi use historical venue where community members of all demographics can gather together to share, collaborate and thrive.
Beer, wine, and spirits will be available for purchase at the Abbey Cafe's bar. All door entry donations and refreshment sales will go directly to the Abbey to fund continued service to the community, support of local arts, and restoration of the historic Alberta Abbey building, newly listed with the National Register of Historic Places.
Buying a ticket to one or both of the Revolution Hall shows directly supports local Portland musicians. And a portion of the show proceeds go to the Jeremy Wilson Musician Health and Services Program. The JWF is a vital player in helping regional musicians navigate unexpected health crises when they have minimal or no financial resources to fall back on.
